how can i identify the specifications, type, etc. of a motor visually
how can i identify the specifications, type, etc. of a motor visually
(OP)
hi guys....i'm an electrical engineer fresh out of college so pardon me if my question seems silly.....i'm new to the forum and this is my first thread....so hopefully i dont make a complete ass of myself....
i'm currently workin with different motors and my colleagues or not of much help informatively......so although i have a general idea about the operation of motors and have managed troubleshooting a few problems so far.......
i wanted to know how to identify the type and other specifications of a motor visually.......
meaning is it an induction motor, synchronous motor, etc...???
how to identify the number of poles???
what are the different applications for the various types???
what is one types advantage over the other???

Bill's suggestion is a good one. Find out what is on the nameplate and what it means. I assume you know how to you figure out the number of poles from the nameplate speed.

i tried the google images many times.....filtering out the relevant images and figuring out the type is far too time consuming.......but thanx nyways......@lionelhutz
Thanx for the Bodine reading material.....was actually lookin for something similar......great help...thnk u.......@brad1979
