Best motor for the job

(OP)
How do you determine the best motor to accelerate a 200g cylinder quickly to a constant velocity and decelerate it and reverse its motion with the total motion back and forth where its total motion is only 180 degrees...

This is like a washing machine action - back and forth over and over again. What I want is an acceleration from zero to a certain angular rotation in about 20 degrees, then a constant angular velocity for 140 degrees, and then a deceleration to zero in about 20 degrees.

I don't want to use a stepper motor. My question is: will a brushless DC motor do the job? Are there other candidates?

RE: Best motor for the job

A servo motor might work for you.
