How to close current file in full screen display?

How to close current file in full screen display?

How to close current file in full screen display?

(OP)
Hello,

I want to be able to close the current file when in full screen display, but there is no "X" in the upper right corner. The advantage by pressing the "X" is that a dialog box is presented where you can decide whether to save the file or not. This is what I always do when closing documents in other programs.

Now, in NX, you can of course press F12 to save and close, but many times I don't want to save the file. Otherwise you can choose "Close All Parts", but here you need to make a decision for all open files as a batch, not one by one. Lastly, you have an option for "Close selected parts". Here you are presented with a list of open files, but you can't see each file before closing, and sometimes, when you have 30 files open, it's difficult to navigate through the list to find the file you're looking for.

So, is there a way to close only the current file when in full screen display that will give an option to save or not?

It ONLY takes a single button push to switch back to a 'normal' screen display, not all that big a price to pay to accomplish what you're looking for.

Maybe look up Keyboard accelerators in your Help Documentation.
It may get you to where you want to go.

RE: How to close current file in full screen display?

You can only assign a keyboard accelerator to an NX function, and selecting the Windows 'Close Window' icon (the 'X') for the NX graphics window is not really an NX function, but rather is simply using a Windows function to trigger an action for which there is NO explicit NX menu item, that is close the current Displayed Part without affecting any other Part open in the session. We never implemented anything special since Windows was kind enough to provide us this capability 'free of charge' as it were. Of course, this meant that there was NO explicit NX function to reference for other purposes, such as assign it a hotkey or recording it in a macro/journal. Now I'm not saying that some ace systems programmer might not be able to find the Microsoft Foundation command which performs this operation and write a simple script/program which could be launched from a customized NX menu item which means that you COULD then assign it to a hotkey, but that seems like a lot work just to avoid one extra mouse gesture (actually two since you'll probably want to go back to full-screen mode once you've change to a new displayed part).

Does the keyboard combination "Ctrl + F4" does what you are looking for?

RE: How to close current file in full screen display?

How did you discover this? I ask since it's not listed when you generate a report of keyboard shortcuts, or is this a pre-defined Windows shortcut?

Yep, there it is:

● CTRL+F4: Closes the current Multiple Document Interface (MDI) window

Excellent, thanks a lot! I'll have to take a close look at that windows shortcut list to discover more hidden gems:)
