I need a simple bevel gear program

I need a simple bevel gear program

I need a simple bevel gear program that can calc mounting distance vs circular tooth thickness
look at the tip chordal, the tooth space width chordal at root.
for bevel & spiral bevel gears. I do not need a design type calc program.
also a plus if can create DXF files.

any sugestions

RE: I need a simple bevel gear program

mfgenggear,

I believe GearTrax will give you some of the bevel gear data you are looking for. It is fairly inexpensive (relative to most engineering software applications) and it will generate accurate gear tooth solid/surface models in CAD programs like SolidWorks or AutoCAD.

Good luck.

thanks for your reply :>)
I have a lamo cad , I need to upgrade to a newer 20th century cad system.

can some one verify this formula.
spiral bevel gear mounting distance change vs gear back lash (normal) I blieve.

delta MD = delta mounting change of pinion
PA = presure angle of pinion
PCA = pitch cone angle
Delta T = delta back lash change

delta T = deltaMD*(2*tanPA)*(sin PCA)

RE: I need a simple bevel gear program

mfgenggear,
what does this lamo CAD from 19. century run on? ;)
Also, I google it and get no results. If something is not in google, it does not exist. ;)

My program is old not my operating system is not.
if it is not broke do not fix it. :>)

I guess it does not :>(
I will have to write my own.

RE: I need a simple bevel gear program

mfgenggear,

Calculating backlash change in spiral bevel gears due to variation in pinion mounting distance is a bit tricky, due to the fact that the gear heel/toe location of the contact is also moving. I've attached some information that might give you some insight (sorry for the low res image).

Hope it helps.

this following attachment was written by Russell Beach for Gear Technology Mag.

This is where I found the equation.
I have to say this is just a starting point used for shimming & for stock removal from the spiral gear teeth.
it is a very complex gear mfg method.

To all

The above formula works. I tested it with an actual spiral bevel pinion gear.
I had the Gear Bevel Machinist verify the actual change from mounting distance to backlash.
the above formula had the same results.

(lay out)of drawn bevel gear results where very close.
