Catia V5R17 Catalog

Catia V5R17 Catalog

Catia V5R17 Catalog

(OP)
Hi,
I am creating a Standard parts catalog for various types of fastener. we have created chapters for each type and then part familys for the specific part, we have then uploaded the part that we have linked to a design table to the catalog.
We can the instantiate any of the various lengths of bolt for example as it is defined by the design table. HOWEVER, when we instantiate a fastener from our catalog it seems to generate a new part that catia then wants to save somewhere.
We only have one length of fastener modelled as the others are controlled by the design table but when we place the part, catia seems to be creating it.
Has anyone come across this before. I want the standard parts to be catalog links not created CatParts.
it seems to be something to do with the catalog generating parts. i have used catalog's in V5 before and didn't think it worked like this ??????

RE: Catia V5R17 Catalog

You need to resolve the Standard parts catalog to accomplish this. Catia will build individual parts for each line of the design table. The directory for the parts can be controlled in Tools - options - Infrastructure -- Catalog editor.

Hi,
thanks for the help, I didn't think the catalog worked like that, but i have never built one from scratch before. i guess 'resolved' means that catia creates them from the original catpart and the design table ?

we have now added a folder for the resolved parts to be created in and changed the path to point to it as you describe. it is one level below where we are keeping the 'master' CatPart.

if this is how it should work we can use it, i wasn't expecting Catia to actually create the CatPart.
