Light Fixture Hangers

Light Fixture Hangers

I am in the process of evaluating light fixture hangers that are ~10 to 20 years old. Is there a particular code and/or design standard associated with the evaluation of existing hangers or the requirements for new hangers (i.e., material, safety factors, etc.)?

RE: Light Fixture Hangers

Check capacity of anchors and rods versus weight of lights - pretty straight forward. NOW - throw seismic at it. That might get a bit challenging.

Thanks. I plan on performing exactly that, however, I am wondering if there is a particular code/standard that indicates what minimum strength/safety factor the anchor/hanger system is to comply with. Any suggestions?

RE: Light Fixture Hangers

Let me see if I can find something on that. Not sure if it is an actual code or not but I was actually pricing fixtures/hanging methods the other day for a project and they had recommended cable/chain values based on the weight of the fixtures. I was looking at gripple hangers though.

RE: Light Fixture Hangers

It doesn't look like they have any actual codes associated with them from what I can see but for the gripple wire hangers it has safety factors for the size and weight.

or here was the local vendors verison

sorry if it doesn't answer your question but maybe it's a start?

RE: Light Fixture Hangers

Many anchors are rated at ultimate load. So be careful.. You should put a 4:1 or usually a 5:1 Safety factor on those numbers
