Chrome damaging Carbon Steel
Chrome damaging Carbon Steel
(OP)
I heard a story from someone working on an oil rig offshore of when they were pulling Carbon Steel pipe out of the wellbore and found abrasions on it. They told me that sometimes chrome would do this. Is this true? is there any other kind of naturally-forming metals that could damage Carbon Steel?

RE: Chrome damaging Carbon Steel
You are not likely to find carbon steel pipe in the wellbore of an offshore rig. It's all going to be quenched and tempered low-alloy steel, probably with a chromium content around 1%, but that really depends on what the pipe was doing there and why they were pulling it out.
Also, abrasions on pipe that has been downhole? Shocking!
