Change one of multiple equal parts in assembly
Change one of multiple equal parts in assembly
(OP)
Assume the following situation:
Assembly1:
part 1
part 2
part 2
part 3
part 4
I'd like to make a change to one of the part 2's, without changing the other one, so one of them needs a new number.
However, when I select the 2nd 'part 2' and do save as... (to 'part 5' for example) the first one changes it's name as well.
I can do a replace component on the first one then to get back a part 2, but that doesn't seem like it's the right way to do it.
Can anyone help me out here?

RE: Change one of multiple equal parts in assembly
Note that if there are only two 'occurrences' of the same Component then it doesn't really matter what you do as the number of steps will be the same, but if there are several 'occurrences' of the same component and you're only going to changing ONE of them it might be easier to open just the Part file that you're going to change while NOT opening the Assembly, make your changes and do your save as, then open your Assembly and now you only have to do the Replace Component operation on the single Component which you wish to be represented by the newly edited and renamed Part file.

One thing that John failed to mention is that in NX8 there is the ability to make unique of a single occurrence of a component within the assembly.
I know that you are working in 7.5 but something to look forward to.

As I see it the make unique will create a new part not connected to the original in any way.

Good point. Yes, NX 8.0 "Make Unique" will allow one component occurrence to be save to a new name while maintaining the other occurrence(s) with the original name (as long as the component part has been saved at least once (so that the unmodified occurrence can maintain the original name).
