Replacing Nylon in Gear Application

Replacing Nylon in Gear Application

Replacing Nylon in Gear Application

(OP)
I currently have a gear that is made from nylon 6 and need to replace the material. I have been told that the nylon 6 can be replaced by PEEK (polyetheretherketone). Can anyone offer suggestions as to the particular grade of PEEK material that is suitable for making gears?
I have attached a drawing of the gear.

Thanks.

RE: Replacing Nylon in Gear Application

Love the material spec: Nylon 6. Filled or unfilled? Filled with what? Lubricated? Heat stabilized? Toughened?

Is this gear molded or machined? You are going to need a material with the same shrinkage if it is molded.

Hard to suggest a replacement when you have not sufficiently defined the original.

Here's an article on PEEK gear design:

I am sorry that I could not specify to your standards, dgallup. But I inherited this design and that is the only specification that I have...nylon 6. The gear is currently machined.

RE: Replacing Nylon in Gear Application

Why to you need to replace the nylon 6?
