distribution lines

distribution lines

(OP)
Hi

I am currently designing and staking a new 3 phase distribution overhead line in NE Wyoming and was wondering if anyone knows the NESC C2-2012 standard for the distance a distribution line structure needs to be away from an overhead transmission line. If anyone could help with this it would be super helpful.

Mike

RE: distribution lines

I depends on a lot of factors such as voltage, sag, span. You need to determine the clearance by wading through the NESC.

RE: distribution lines

What jghrist says.

Who owns the transmission line? You'll need to get hold of that line's design criteria to find figures for maximum sag and base your design on that figure. Long span transmission lines' sag will change to a greater degree than short dist. lines. So what you calculate based on a field observation won't be correct under high ice loading (or whatever) conditions.

Clearance will also depend on types (class) of construction, whether structures are shared between the lines or not, etc, etc.

RE: distribution lines

I agree with both of the previous posts. The owner of the line will have requirements that you must follow. Did you have a distance in mind?
