3D hose model, wheres the centerline

3D hose model, wheres the centerline

3D hose model, wheres the centerline

(OP)
I design tooling fixtures for 3D hose for the auto industry. When I get iges models from customers using catia, their model has centerlines and solidworks does not show centerlines. Is there a way I can turn the centerline on. How can I work with their models. I need the centerline to orientate the hose. Thanks

RE: 3D hose model, wheres the centerline

Do the hoses have a straight section at each end? If they do, an axes can be created with the Axis tool in the Reference Geometry toolbar.

Keith,

You do not mention what 3D system you are using. If you are importing a dumb solid into SolidWorks you can turn on the display of Temporary Axes. If you are not using SolidWorks perhaps whatever system you are using has something similar.

Can you attach a sample IGES file here?
I do a 3D Sketch for the centerline.
There is a bit of a geometry trick to getting the bend radii.

I am using Solidworks. The igs file is from Catia. I can open this up in AutoCad and the center line is there with radii. But when I open it up in SW they are not there. I know about the temp axies but I cant do anything with them>. The type of fixtures I build sometime requires me to use more that one design software. I cant seem to get the file to upload. Can you give me your email so I can just email it to you. Thanks

Posting email addresses is not allowed by site management. They will be removed.

Are you using the ENGINEERING.com link (at the bottom of the reply box) to upload the file?

RE: 3D hose model, wheres the centerline

You posted the ".rpt" file (the translation report) instead of the IGS file.

RE: 3D hose model, wheres the centerline

I opened the file and enabled the Temporary Axis and they are available for selection on my machine.
What do you mean you can't do anything with them?

Why can't you simply use the internal diameters (faces) of the hose for mating?

I have had a break thru. When you select the igs file to open. Select the option button. and then select free point/curve entities and import as 3d curves. When you do this, you will see what I have been talking about. Thanks for your help.
