Seismic Coefficient for Crane Monorail Support
Seismic Coefficient for Crane Monorail Support
(OP)
20-foot bays, 16-foot spans, 2T monorail supported mid-span running down bays.
W10 beams on 6" Std pipe posts 16-feet height, with semi-fixed shallow auger-cast
footings and single-angle knee braces down 19% of way (e.g. ~4.2-feet in length).
C8x11.5 spandrels bay-to-bay above posts, also knee-braced. C8 purlins at 3-feet.
I=1.25 and Sa=1.0g
?What portion of crane load is included in seismic? Only monorail + hoist/trolley?
?What is R response modification coefficient, and Cs seismic response coefficient?
I don't believe this qualifies as an OSBF!? ; )

RE: Seismic Coefficient for Crane Monorail Support
K-braces (knees) aren't recommended for seismic resistance either as they will damage columns by bending (inelastic conditions) and collapse the structure.
Usually the codes do not require hanging loads from cranes to be included in the seismic mass in determining lateral demand.
Hope this helps a bit.
