1528 Steel Grade (?)

1528 Steel Grade (?)

1528 Steel Grade (?)

(OP)
Hi all,

I am looking for a material named "1528 Steel". The customer is in Turkey, I have checked nearly all the specs but couldn't find anything. The part is for an excavator and steel alloy. If anyone heard of my mysterious "1528", I will be greatful.

RE: 1528 Steel Grade (?)

From the foundry perspective 1528 tells me it is a high Mn carbon steel. The Mn will be between 1.00% and 1.50% and carbon between .25% and .30%. That really does not give enough information however. The customer should specify some kind of heat treat and tensile strength requirements even if it is just an ASTM A148 Grade.

RE: 1528 Steel Grade (?)

Looking at the worldwide guide to equivalent irons and steels, I do not see a 1528 grade. I see a 1527, and then a 1533. Grade series 1500 is filed under Carbon Steel, High Manganese. AISI 1527 for bar specifies C = .22/.29, Mn = 1.20/1.50, P = .040 max and S = .050 max. AISI 1533 for bar, bloom, billet, or slab specifies C = 0.30/0.37, Mn = 1.10/1.40, P = .040 max and S = .050 max.

RE: 1528 Steel Grade (?)

Considering that the use is for part in an excavator, I think
you should try looking among the "wear/abrassion resistant steel" qualities.
That is steel that mainly have hardness in range HB 400 or HB 500 or higher.

Some relevant European brandnames are : HARDOX, XAR, FORA, etc.
