Organic Content

(OP)
Hello.

Just working here in the lab today and testing organic soils -- one of the tests is determining the organic content. Everyone in the office is complaining about the smell and I am just wondering if there's anything harmful or if it's just a bad odor? I'm burning it off on a stove top. Any ideas?

RE: Organic Content

Common. Use a vented hood or vented oven.

Once did moisture content tests of compost for a "major theme park in Central Florida". The odor was so bad we had to air out the whole office for about a week, using fans.

RE: Organic Content

Don't think it's harmful, just annoying. You can always put the machine outside for a couple of hours to let the worst of it burn there.
