SA-336 in ANSI 16.5???
SA-336 in ANSI 16.5???
(OP)
Hi Everybody:
Had a question regarding material callouts in ASME B16.5 Code. I have a 2500# flange that is made of SA-336 class 5A material, but the material is not listed in 16.5 in any of the matieral groups (at least I did not see it). I guess my two question are:
1) Are you allowed to use SA-336 material when making a 16.5 2500# flange, and
2) How do I put SA-336 class 5A into one of the material groups in 16.5?
Thanks!

The minimum yield strength SA 336 5A is 344.8 MPa and that SA 182 F5A is 448.2 MPa. Hence you can not use the standard ratings. You have to design flamnge as per Appendix-2 of ASME VIII-1
