Hi Guys,

I need to TIG weld SA 213 T22 (P5 Gr 1) to 304 (P8) s/s plate.
Which TIG wire should I use?
E309 /AWS A5.28:ER 90SG

RE: GTAW/TIG wire for joining SA213 T22 to 304L

You should use Inconel 82 for this material combination.

RE: GTAW/TIG wire for joining SA213 T22 to 304L

You can also us Inco Weld A. E309-XX is acceptable for use but higher alloy Inco Weld A or 182 are prefered. Reference: API 577 Appendix D.

Correction: In the previous post I meant to say Inco 82, not 182

RE: GTAW/TIG wire for joining SA213 T22 to 304L

hi-jack; in addition to mrfailure's excellent post, does anyone know of any other
standard/technical report that may give guidance for filler metal selection,
except the obvious choice of manufacturer books likes the one from Lincoln which may tell which
materials are to be welded with a certain rod/core/wire?

RE: GTAW/TIG wire for joining SA213 T22 to 304L

mrfailure:

where were you able to find a source for Inco Weld A Tig wire?

RE: GTAW/TIG wire for joining SA213 T22 to 304L

API A577 calls out preferred weld wires by AWS #; I simply used the commercial name in my posting.
