Dear all,
We are designing a combi retaining wall for a quay structure. The quay will be constructed by land reclamation (about 6 to 7 m high) over the ground surface in an intertidal zone. The soil below the ground surface is structured silty clay with low plasticity (CL) with varying sand contents. The clay is soft at the ground surface and becomes stiff at a depth of about 13m.

The combi wall has a deep soil mixing block (15m deep) below the ground surface between the quay wall and rear row of anchoring piles. The deep soil mixing is separated from the front wall and rear piles by deep jet grouting. The land reclamation fill will be on top of the DSM block and the jet grouting in the quay wall area. There will also be land reclamation on the ground surface behind the wall. I have the following 2 queries:

1- Can you advice me about a design report/manual/code...etc that I can use to design the jet grouting between the wall and the DSM block? I need the reference to cover issues like: the election of the characteristic strength, and factors of safety (to derive the allowable compressive strength from the characteristic strength), as well as the QA measures.

2- Given that the current practices of Deep Soil Mixing include some sort of jet grouting at the edges of the mixing blades, are the factors of safety for the DSM & Jet grouting similar?

All that is know how that belongs to a limited number of specialized contractors. I doubt that you find something serious on the matter. You should liaise with some of these contractors, they will help you to build your specs.
