Design of Saddle for Hydrotest and Transportation

Design of Saddle for Hydrotest and Transportation

Design of Saddle for Hydrotest and Transportation

(OP)
Dear All,

I was trying to perform the saddle design for a huge vertical column which is 8 meters in diameter. These saddles are intended to be used during Hydrotest and Transportation. I tried the Saddle design using both pvelite and Compress but in both cased the analysis fail. The reason for failure are the below stress,

Stiffener Circ. Stress at Shell 137.09 172.38 N./mm²...manipulated some dimensions but not a good design
Stiffener Circ. Stress at Tip 211.64 172.38 N./mm²
Bending Stress, Sb = ( M * C1 / I ) = 182.9923 N./mm² [Failed]

I have attached file of both the software for reference. Also link for both the files is as below
http://www.4shared.com/folder/KUSIIRy0/Transportation_files.html

I would request if someone can help me to have some solution for analyzing saddles for such a huge vessel

Regards

ting123,
I can't open right now the pvi file, but a quick check with you before hand. Obviously, you didn't assume the saddles are welded to the shell, did you? Also, did you consider multiple saddles instead of one pair of saddles? And lastly, the column is at atmospheric pressure, isn't it?
Cheers,
