October 07-11, 2012 | Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Come to Pittsburgh. ASM is giving a short course on Stainless Steel at the MS&T convention. I'm teaching it but some of you experts might like to audit and pitch in, even if you don't need further education. The course will only be held if we get 10 students. Get a colleague to sign up. We can socialize afterwards.

RE: stainless course

Hello Mike,

I will be at MS&T presenting my dissertation research. I wouldn't mind listening in if there are no conflicts.

Sounds great. What's your thesis topic?

RE: stainless course

The influence of ion implantation on metal transfer (ie. galling initiation). System studied is ISF steel(EDDQ+) with 1100Al-O. I know it's a sadistic wear test! I essentially implanted ISF Steel with different levels of N, C, and S. Studied the impact in terms of friction and volumetric transfer under different oxidizing conditions. I'm writing my thesis/papers now. It's going to be a long summer!
