[NX 7] Impossible to shell

[NX 7] Impossible to shell

[NX 7] Impossible to shell

(OP)
Hi,
I'm not able to shell with 3 mm as the image attached.
How can I understand where reside the problem ?

Thank you...

Using NX 8 and TC8.3

RE: [NX 7] Impossible to shell

Make, in the part that you uploaded, the 3mm Shell before Edge Blend (10), then create a new 6mm blend on the inside and you will see the problem. -why the Shell has problems. It is a matter of how to trim together the new blend faces with the surrounding faces. See attached image.
Regards, Tomas

RE: [NX 7] Impossible to shell

I'd say it's because your flange thickness is 3mm and NX fails when the resulting surfaces are coplanar. I used Move Face to add 1mm to the thickness, then shelled at 3mm and Trim Body to the plane of the flanges. We shell a lot and find it to be a little finicky. Nothing's perfect.

RE: [NX 7] Impossible to shell

I still say that it is the trimming of the blend that there is no specific "if statement" for. smile
If one follows John2025's nice tip, there is a face for the offset blend to trim to and the excess can later be trimmed off. I have added an arrow on the problem edge that is the problematic one. Compare this picture to the one i posted earlier.

Regards,
Tomas

RE: [NX 7] Impossible to shell

Yeah, I see what you mean. It's not the coplanarality (new word?) since it shells without the radius.

Hi,
sorry I've not uploaded the solution but the original part.
Anyway the solution is very similar to the john2025.
I add material, shell and trim.
SolidWorks and Catia do without problem.
Parasolid kernel limitation.
You can say, SolidWorks uses Parasolid kernel...yes and not.
For some feature use ACIS kernel.
Shell is one of this.

Thank you...
