Underground Firewater pipe-No Cement lining
Underground Firewater pipe-No Cement lining
(OP)
Hello,
We have a situation that the contractor has installed an underground carbon steel fire water pipe that goes to a hydrant. The pipe is wrapped but it is not cement lined. I am trying to find any statement in AWWA standards (C205 maybe) that approves the pipe material.
I have already purchased AWWA C200 , C604 and NFPA 24. I couldn’t find anything in C200 and C604.
NFPA 24 allows using CS without cement lining as long as it’s internally galvanized.
Any advice would be appreciated.

RE: Underground Firewater pipe-No Cement lining
The lines were installed in the late 80's and had to be replaced 2006-2008 time frame. They had actually holed through.
The reason I know about it is he could not come to my job because they were busy digging up that mess. But they did get 20+ years out of the pipe.
He did not mention the schedule. Size was 10 or 12 inch.

ANSI/AWWA C200 is the standard for steel pipe.

I don't think a lining is required by C200, but most specifiers will require a lining or coating of some sort.
