strange update when clicking on weld symbol

strange update when clicking on weld symbol

strange update when clicking on weld symbol

(OP)
Hello All

Some of out users have noticed that when they are in drafting, and the click on the weld symbol tool, that the status line flashes with updating objects for several seconds. The bigger the assembly, the longer it takes. I have checked all the usual suspects, but I'm a bit baffled. I have attached a link to a video to demonstrate. Any idea what is causeing this.

Many thanks

RE: strange update when clicking on weld symbol

Is this a legacy Drawing (i.e. created in an older version of NX) being opened and edited for the first time in NX 7.5?

To an Engineer, the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.

Hi john

Sory for the late reply, I've been with a couple of your colleagues (Derek England and co) over at the EMF.

The parts were "save as" from an older version of NX and this was the firt time they had been edited.

Best regards

RE: strange update when clicking on weld symbol

While I unable to reproduce this behavior here on my system, I suspect that what's happening is that we've made some significant enhancements to Weld Symbols over the last several releases and so what might be happening is that when you go to edit a legacy weld symbol that the system needs to update it first. I further suspect that you've set you drawing view update to NOT be automatic meaning that the drawing doesn't update when first opened until you do something explicit.

Now if this only occurs once and if you save the drawing and if you open it again and selecting the weld symbol and nothing happens, then I would say that the system if working as expected. However, if it continues to happen with the same weld symbol every time you select it for editing even if you've saved the file and reopened it, then I would contact GTAC and have them look at it. Now, before you, ask I'm not aware of anything which would force an update to all weld symbols at once. I suspect that this won't even happen during 'refile' since I know that updating anything on a drawing which might have any chance of moving or changing the appearance ever-so-slightly of any drafting object is something we are very careful of since we have many customers who check drawings after an update and even if NO content has changed, but a note or dimension as moved even a fraction of a millimeter we hear about it so drawing updates are handled with very special care.

Anyway, if this only happens once per symbol or drawing, I suspect that this is how it's supposed to work.
