Verification problem for solid beam not working

Verification problem for solid beam not working

Verification problem for solid beam not working

(OP)
Hello,
I can`t get correct deflection values using solid elements for simply supported beam. Verification example is shown below (analitical deflection is 3.33 mm).

ABAQUS works well with wire and shell elemnts, but using solid elements deflection is 100 times bigger :/ Maybe someone faced similar problem and could help ?

Abqus model is attached at the end.

RE: Verification problem for solid beam not working

Am I right to assume that you only have one elemnt through the thickness of the beam? Have you tried with more elements?

Thanks, bkal. Smaller mesh step solved the problem :)

RE: Verification problem for solid beam not working

Although you have solved your problem, here's my two cents:

You have reduced integration elements in your model. Full integration elements will give a more realistic but still quite inaccurate results at the mesh density that you have in the model. Increasing the mesh density will help.

On the other hand, if you switch to quadratic elements, you will get very close to the analytical solution. Then, as previously suggested, increase the mesh density to see how the accuracy improves.

Forgot to add: Yet another option is to use the incompatible mode elements.

AND the BC on one end is supposed to allow motion in x-direction.
