Historic Welded Wire Fabric Tensile Strength

Historic Welded Wire Fabric Tensile Strength

(OP)
Hopefully this is an easy question.

I have an existing 1930 slab, reinforced with a 3/8" dia. Clinton welded wire fabric mesh. I'm trying to determine the tensile strength of the wire. I have a copy of the ASTM A-82 1933 and 1958 standard but not the 1927 that this would likely fall under.

From here: http://www.wirereinforcementinstitute.org/pages/pubs/pdf/TF%20100-R-06.pdf (page 6)
and here: http://www.apti.org/publications/PP-archive/Friedman-PPs.pdf (page 2)
it seems that I should use a value of 50 KSI as a good conservative value for the tensile strength of the WWF. Does anyone have a better number or the original ASTM standard to back this up?

When it comes to wire cloth specs, always check with the experts. It will only take a few calls for you to recover the information on the spec you are looking for, try 2 or 3 of these guys, they are the experts in this material and at least 1 of them will have thi info for you.

Thanks for your help purewater1 but this was over a month ago and the project has already been completed. I never considered calling modern manufacturers of WWF so it would have been helpful.

I noticed that your only other post on the forum was for a similar topic from January. Keep in mind that a lot of the stuff on the forum is time dependent and, while useful information is always good, if we're constantly reviving old threads then it can hide the more current topics.

Either way, thanks for the help, I'm glad that someone responded even if it took a month.

RE: Historic Welded Wire Fabric Tensile Strength

Yeah I just stumbled across this is my google searches, apologize for the time delay. I do a lot of R and D work in Wire Cloth, so I seek out specs quite a bit.

Thanks,
