Specifying SA106B with min ID

Specifying SA106B with min ID

Specifying SA106B with min ID

(OP)
In reviewing SA106B Ordering Information the size needs to be specified as NPS, weight class, schedule number, or outside diameter and nominal wall thickness.
We need to maintain a min ID with min wall thickness. To accomplish this we want to take a standard pipe and swage it down so that we don't have to machine the ID.
How do we specify this material and still be in compliance with the Ordering Information requirements?
Thank you for your feedback.

RE: Specifying SA106B with min ID

weeeds, specify the dimensions you want, see who no-quotes it.

Regards,

Mike

(I hate thi snew font, too hard to read, larger please!)

RE: Specifying SA106B with min ID

I agree with SnTMan, I would as for a quote of the pipe as you normally do, and then specify on your request for it to have the ID you wish by swage. See who quotes it and who doesn't.

Thanks, but my question really is if this method of specifying SA106B pipe is acceptable to the ASME Code. The Ordering Information paragraph in SA106B does not state that specifying the ID is acceptable.

RE: Specifying SA106B with min ID

weeeds, as long as the material meets the spec in all respects you can ask for whatever else you want. You're the buyer.

Regards,

Mike

RE: Specifying SA106B with min ID

do not forget that you have a 12.% mfg tolerance to play with, if the T meets the specification,
you may be allowed 8 or more % machining. swage would not be a problem as long as you keep the min T.
that's ordering spec. (that is under fabrication)... then you may even have more T to cut if the calculated T + corrosion all if any exceeds the required vessel T.
