Hello Everybody,

I was wondering if any of you can help with a question that I have about Mech Selas and Plans.

I have seen moss of the time specified for example: API 32/53B why it is written like that?.

What does it means?. If there were written as only API 32. On its own is ok but it makes me confused the 53B part for the Gas type seal.

Is it one related to the piping arrangement and the other for the fishing type?.

Many thanks in advanced,

MechGraduate.

API plan 32 is external injection of a clean fluid into the seal chamber. This is normally used when the product is dirty containing solids. It is unusual to have Plan 32 & 53B together but they can be used. Plan 53B is for dual pressurized seals. You can find a description of all the API piping plans in API682 or google API piping plans.
Both are related to piping plans. Is your application high temp with solids?
The plan 32 used in conjunction with 53B is used to stop solids hanging up the inner seal.

Hi Flexibox,

Thank you for the information. The application is:

Produced Water; MAx temp operation is: 60 @Deg.

Total Dissolved Solids = 188 500 mg/l ; Treated Water contents: solids (<5μm, <5mg/l), Total Dissolved Solids.

Can I specify only Plan 32? or has to be combined with Plan 32 / XXXX for example 61/62.....53B.....

Many thanks,

Mech Graduate.

If you have a single seal then specify plan 32 & 61. Make sure the plan 32 is reliable. I use dual pressurized seals on produced water with plan 53B. You should be fine.
Plan 61 is a connection for purchaser use in future in case you need a quench for the single seal.

I would use sil vs sil with aflas orings.
