Solidworks Crashes When Staring or Opening a Drawing

Solidworks Crashes When Staring or Opening a Drawing

(OP)
Sorry for the redundnacy, but the original thread had been closed. My elderly Dell M90 w SW2010 SP2.1 suddenly began crashing when I try to open or create a drawing. I'd made no changes to hardware or software, and had no notable events before the problem emerged. I tried the fixes suggested in the previous thread (windir registry value correction from %SystemRoot% to c:\windows; veriifying templates were in the correct location) with no results.

Anybody else having this problem? Suggestions?

RE: Solidworks Crashes When Staring or Opening a Drawing

While you haven't made any changes, has Windows? One thing I've noticed is that Windows will try to load new video drivers, which can cause the problem. Also, it could be that your hardware is just getting old. You might just have a RAM module that's gone bad and your machine just can't handle drawings.
What sort of maintenance have you performed on it? Do you regularly clean out your temp folder? Defrag?

In the past, before we purchased our newer workstations, SW would crash when the temp folder size became too large. You might try clearing it out.
