material selection of pump

(OP)
Ladies and Gentlmen
we have corrosion problem with pump used for treated water in industrial area
material of wet pump is carbon steel and cast iron (casing, impellar and shaft)
i want to upgrade material of vertical Aerator Effluent Pump
i am thinking about nonmetallic material or steel lined with PTFE or SS
so please advise if you have experience

RE: material selection of pump

Plastic will be the best choice concerning corrosion and cheaper than stainless steel or any lined metal. Talk to companies like Goulds, Grundfos or Grainger. They should be able to help.

what about temperature damage and mechanical damage of impellar and shaft due to rotating if material is plastic

RE: material selection of pump

Rubber lined pumps can be an alternative. Pump shafts are commonly made in 400 series or 17-4 PH stainless steels.

400 series or 17-4 PH stainless steels are good for high temperature above 200C but in our case temperature is normal will not exceed 80C

RE: material selection of pump

Alloy CA6NM if choosing metallic.

Or, depending on the pump size, Ni-Resist may be an option. The alloy is more expensive but casting and finishing are less costly than with SS. This is a very proven alloy in bad water service.

RE: material selection of pump

Are there certain types of plastic that we should look for if we have, say, an alkaline cleaner for a passivation cleaning? This thread is suddenly becoming extremely relevant IRL.
