Dear friends,

I am involved in the modal analysis of a part (see attached file).I want to develop 1) mathematical model of it which i can solve it in MATLAB analytically. and then 2) i want to do the experimental validation of the same in Pulse software which performs modal analysis based on the type of excitation given to part (e.g Hammer test/Shaker test). can you please suggest how to go ahead with this problem? dazed

1) perhaps you mean a finite element model? You can certainly do that in matlab. See openFEM

2) That rather depends on the size of the part and so on.

I want to discretize my part as mass spring model with damper ,not a finite element discretization. you can see this model in my previous post.I want a methodology to perform the modal analysis.

can you give some suggestion?

You need to create a lumped mass model of your structure. But anything greater than 3 masses quickly complicates your equations for natural frequency calculation. Even with MATLAB you need to solve the equations (be it symbolic or direct numerical). I wonder if it is wise to do so. Experts in this forum can comment on that.

A good point to start on this is to read Fundamentals of Structural Dynamics by R R Craig and A Kurdilla as to how to make a lumped mass model.
