Borosilicate Blocks for Chimney Liner Retrofit

Borosilicate Blocks for Chimney Liner Retrofit

Borosilicate Blocks for Chimney Liner Retrofit

(OP)
I am looking for information on manufacturers of borosilicate blocks commonly used for chimney liners. The only product I am aware of is Pennguard block manufactured by Hadek. It is an excellent productr, but some of our customers ask for alternate sources. If you are aware of other producers, please reply.

RE: Borosilicate Blocks for Chimney Liner Retrofit

I believe that Pennguard Block is manufactured by Pittsburgh Corning. Hadek are a marketing/design/installer of the Pennguard product. There are alternative manufacturers of both the Borosilicate Block and the Elastomeric Adhesive.

I am not sure if this is the case;
Borosilicate glass product is not listed on Pitssburgh Corning website http://pittsburghcorning.com/products/all-products...
Hadek's website states that they are suppliers of Pennguard. http://www.hadek.com/pennguard_block_lining_system
There is a difference between "supplier" and "manufacturer". In this case Pennguard is actually manufactured by Henkel and supplied by Pennguard

I would not be surprised if the same Henkel's product is also distributed through "private label" agreement unde rdifferent brand name.

What I am looking for is competitive products and their specs.

Ergon Armor now own Henkel (Corrosion Engineering). The Pennguard Block product is now part of the Ergon portfolio of materials. Ergon are manufacturing mortars, screeds and membranes. Pittsburgh Corning produce the Borosilicate glass block, labelled for Ergon as Pennguard Block. Equivalent materials are available which have been used in over 20 chimneys.

I am somewhat puzzled - which are the competing brands?

Here is what I was able to locate in cyberspace:

1)GI-180
http://www.ecocera.co.kr/en/page15.html

2)Boroblock which appears to be the same product as Korean GI-180 which suggests that it is private label of Ecocera, marketed in the US as Boroblock
http://www.blome.com/specs/bbproducts.ht

Do you have experience with any of these products? Thanks.

RE: Borosilicate Blocks for Chimney Liner Retrofit

I know Ecocera and Blome. Blome are being run by an ex Henkel guy. Blome are a small version of Ergon, selling chemical resistant mortars, coatings and membranes. The GI-180 material is of a lower quality than Pennguard Block (lower density and less boron). What exactly are you wanting? Perhaps you should e-mail me with your requirements/plans for chimney linings: david@anticorrosion-eu.com I should be able to help.
