Price differences

Price differences

(OP)
Can someone tell me if there is a big price difference between 2XXX and 6XXX Al alloys series in T6 temper (don't know the AA designation equivalent) and explain what makes the price difference (is it the alloying element?)  thanks.

RE: Price differences

Metals and Alloys are typically sold by the pound.  Price is affected by form, i.e.: coil, sheet, plate, bar, structural , pipe, and tubing.  Price is also affected by quantity.  More tonnage less cost per pound generally.

for exsample:                    bar       sheet
                 2024  approx  $2.75/lb   $6/lb
                 6061  approx  $2.00/lb   $6/lb

I am not sure what temper this is but not T6.

From this example you can see that you must be very explicit before you can compare prices.
Any Aluminum distributor will gladly give you the prices and why the prices are structured as they are.

Also there is another forum on this website called "Material ordering, handling and engineering" where you can likely get some more hints if you are new at the specifying /ordering game.

Don't know about Jesus but you got me closer to answering my questions, thanks!
