Wall Design
Wall Design
(OP)
We are designing cantilever retaining walls for an industrial structure for bulk storage. The wall is tapered with thickness at top of 800mm(32")and 1800mm (71") at base. The walls have some heavy axial load also due to moving crane wheels.
Do ACI-318 chapter for 14 for walls is equally applicable for this type of wall thicknesses or is it applicable for walls upto say 20" or 24" thick only?

You sure you don't want to tie them back? These are going to be hard to get to work for sliding and bending.
RE: Wall Design
The wall is cantilevered from a grade beam 2m x 2m size(supported on piles) and the grade beam is designed for all torsion, shear and other loads.
RE: Wall Design
Note that your torsional loads are going to be pretty hard to handle. A 6'-0" square beam will help, but torsional design in concrete is difficult all by itself, plus your wall weights and lateral loads.
I would advise adding a heel to the wall to resolve some of the torsion, but that's up to you. Good luck.
RE: Wall Design
I had used chapter 10 and 11 for design but just wanted another opinion regarding chapter 14.
The pile spacing is 10m with grade beams in both directions. Adding heel is not an option due to process requirement.
