Circuit Breaker vs Fault Interrupter

Circuit Breaker vs Fault Interrupter

Circuit Breaker vs Fault Interrupter

(OP)
Hi everyone,

Long time lurker, first post. Question: is there a specific IEEE definition which distinguishes interrupters vs breakers?

Context: I am talking about Power Distribution - 34.5 kV, 50A type loads. When a switchgear is specified, it seems as if some companies prefer to test to circuit breaker standards (C37.09) rather than to interrupter standards (C37.60), even though the elementary components (load break switch, vacuum interrupter bottles) are essentially the same.

thanks in advance for any feedback, we can get into the details some more if it helps.
