Metal Bldg Design using RISA 3D
Metal Bldg Design using RISA 3D
(OP)
Has anyone used RISA 3D for the analysis of a metal building? I am having trouble figuring out if the AISC 13th edition is ok to use? Where does the AISC address web tapered members for axial load + flexure?
The last I used RISA 3D for a metal building analysis was with spreadsheets that took only the analysis portion of RISA 3d and incorporated the appendix F of the 9th edition.
Any comments welcome. Thanks.

Then specific omission in the current code would be to direct to the guide.
As for RISA-3D, one should look in the documentation if your version includes the design as per such guide (normally such thing wouldn't be omitted, since an achievement). Last version I have for the guide dates from 2011, what makes unlikely the implementation, but ask Risatech.
Anyway, I loving simple things wherever possible, find daunting a 200+ pages guide for tapered members for office use. Even tabulated solutions would be better, even if in order to keep economy tight.

Honestly, I was excited enough about this new procedure that i would have liked to see us add it in a couple of years ago (based on a draft copy of the DG-25). This new tapered member design methodology just seems so much more rationale and comprehensive that was was in LRFD 2nd and AISC 9th. But, our company felt that releasing a major feature based on an unpublished document might not be a good idea.
