deleting components not loaded in assembly

deleting components not loaded in assembly

deleting components not loaded in assembly

(OP)
We are currently running NX 7.5.5.4.  When I open an assembly and it has a part that went obsolete, I am having a problem being able to delete that component.  When I select to component to delete it, it goes and tries to open it first before it deletes it.  Why would it have to try and open the file first?  Is there some setting I need to change in a preference or something to get this to work?

RE: deleting components not loaded in assembly

Here is what I would try:

Before opening the assembly, Set "load options" to load no components:
File -> Options -> Assembly Load Options -> expand "Scope" -> at set "Load" to "Structure Only"

Now open the assembly part file, no components will be brought in.
Look for the component in the ANT that you want deleted, and delete it.

Now Open Assembly:
In the ANT rmc (right mouse click) on the top level assembly and Open -> Assembly

If this is what you want then save the part.
Set your load options back to what they were.

I tried that at first, and it didn't work.  I did find out there was promotion made from a component of the obsolete part and that component was still a good part.  I had to open that part so I could then delete the promotion, then delete the old component.

RE: deleting components not loaded in assembly

That's good info to know !
