Long Shot? Who knows VAG 1.8t management?
Long Shot? Who knows VAG 1.8t management?
(OP)
I'm chasing gremlins and need someone with intimate knowledge of the VW 1.8t boost, ignition, valve (cam) timing control, and fuel management. I can't use VAG-COM until I know where to look (and find someone w/ VAG-COM that I can borrow).
It's a long shot, but I thought this might be a good place to look for expertise.

I have all you could ever want to know on the 1.8T also.
Brian,
RE: Long Shot? Who knows VAG 1.8t management?
BrianGar, I'm looking for boost control logic, specifically. As I'm sure you know, this might include the EGR 'system' and the other ancillary systems that use boost for one thing or another. Of course, the boost control and other systems could be treated completely separately. I'm experiencing occasional erratic boost and slightly fluctuating power, along with an occasional sometimes erratic miss at idle and no CEL. It's all very confusing. Do you have any information available that you could send me related to the above systems?

They suffer a lot of common problems that are boost related as you describe. Most common ones are boost leak, n75 valve, failing turbo, low oil pressure, failing coil packs, throttle body misalignment and so on.
Vortex is a great forum, and there is a lot of very smart guys on there. Its often the case though, that the smart guys stay quiet as most things have been answered if you search. Saying that most on there dont know what a multimeter is is just daft.
Get your car scanned - this is why vagcom exists - no guessing, saying that you cant use it until you know where to look makes me think you dont know much about them to be looking in the first place, but I could be wrong.
Brian.

I very much doubt that you will be lucky enough to get your hands on the ME7 EMS Function Frame (Strategy Document) and I wouldn't expect it to mean much to you anyway, not without more background information.
Personally I don't have any experience with your particular vehicle but I have touched upon ME7 EMS.
