1950 Building Code?

1950 Building Code?

1950 Building Code?

(OP)
Is there any way to determine what the building codes would have been in, say, state of IL in the late 40s & early 50s?

RE: 1950 Building Code?

I believe the state of Illinois fininally adopted a state building code within the last year-check the state's website.  Prior to that, each local jurisdiction would have specified which code (if any) they followed.  Call the building department of the local jurisdiction to find out.  Based on prior experiences, don't be surprised if they say there wasn't an official building code or if there was one, it was loosely followed.

RE: 1950 Building Code?

If you were out in the "Boonies" - then NOTHING - still the same in Missouri!!  Yes - we are modern enough to adopt the IBC code state wide - but outside any major city - there is nobody to enforce it!!!!!

RE: 1950 Building Code?

Most of the midwest east of the Mississippi was the BOCA and west of the Mississippi was the UBC.
