ASME Sec. IX, QW-408.2 FCAW Shield Gas

ASME Sec. IX, QW-408.2 FCAW Shield Gas

I have a vendor who is disagreeing with me on his WPS/PQR.  I have requested he change his WPS to match his PQR as we consider the type of shield gas for FCAW (i.e. mix vs. 100% CO2) to be an essential variable based on ASME Sec. IX, QW-408.2.  This was confirmed to me via phone by someone who sits on the ASME board for welding yet the vendor insists that the type of shield gas is not an essential variable.  Not sure if he was getting confused with AWS code.  If I could get more clarification on this, it would be appreciated.  Thanks.

RE: ASME Sec. IX, QW-408.2 FCAW Shield Gas

Your Vendor is confused. Gas mixture is an essential variable under QW-255 and QW-408,2 (b) and (c). If the gas classification meets that defined in 13.2 of SFA 5.32 and meets the actual analysis permitted therein, those minor percentage difference are permitted without requalification.

Stan,
That is what I thought.  I just wanted another data point for my argument.  Thanks!
