Liquid Rheostat

Liquid Rheostat

Just a quick question everyone. I have been pit in charge of implementing a liquid rheostat maintenance program.  MKS has given me some suggestions but, was wondering if anyone had some suggestions.

RE: Liquid Rheostat

Check with their competition - you might find something better

RE: Liquid Rheostat

Look for books dealing with electrical maintenance back in the olden days. There are some really good books from the 1930s and 1940s which have references to this stuff. I have a couple at work with a few details, but there's probably not much point in giving you their titles because they've been out of print for longer than I've been alive.

Over here liquid resistors were frequently used for neutral earthing until the 1960s. Other than the rack & pinion mechanism to raise the electrode there should be plenty similarity in maintenance requirements. You could feed Google with either liquid NER or LNER. The latter will probably bring up a few hits relating to a famous British railway company from yesteryear, so you might have to add a couple of other key words to refine the search.

Not having any luck looking up Liquid NER. Also, I am basically a traveling mechanic. So I am looking for basic maintenance procedures etc.  They seem relatively simple in construction and operation.

RE: Liquid Rheostat

There ahs been a number of discussions in here about chemical concentrations etc. that might be helpful. Do a keyword search. Also cross search for "liquid resistance starter".
