What's New in NX 8.0.2?

What's New in NX 8.0.2?

What's New in NX 8.0.2?

(OP)
I just downloaded and installed NX8.0.2, and I'd like to know what is new...  When clicking Help > What's New Guide, the only info available seems to describe NX8.0.1, not NX8.0.2...

Also the typical "What's New" PDF document for NX8.0.2 isn't available on the GTAC support site.

Anyone know what is new, besides fixed PR's?

RE: What's New in NX 8.0.2?

There were no specific NX enhancements in NX 8.0.2.2.  It was intended primarily as a maintenance release and therefore there were no changes to any NX function or application, with the exception of the interface to Teamcenter.  And these issues have been covered in the 'Release Notes' document.

OK, thank you John.

RE: What's New in NX 8.0.2?

Hi John,
on NX 8.0.1 there was a limitation on 'Create component array' from some pattern feature, for example only linear and circular pattern feature was supported in 'Create component array'.
Now on NX 8.0.2.2 I read this :
Home->NX 8.0.2->Release Notes->CAD (Design)->Assemblies :
Component arrays referencing pattern features
In the Modeling application, you can add patterns of features by choosing Insert→Associative Copy→Pattern Feature.

When you create a component array using the From Pattern Feature option, you can now reference all types of pattern features.

Sincerely I don't understand, because on this version, only linear and circular pattern feature are supported on component array.

Thank you...

RE: What's New in NX 8.0.2?

What you know, they implemented a 'stealth' enhancement (I just tested it and it's actually there and it works).

This was originally a project in the next full release of NX (where I already tested it a couple of weeks ago), which will be released later this year.  We were told that NX 8.0.2.2 was maintance only and since there was no 'What's New' for this MR, I never gave it a second thought.

RE: What's New in NX 8.0.2?

John,
what described in NX 8.0.2.2 about I can now reference all types of pattern features during the component array, in my installation doesn't work.
I's wrong the release notes or I wrong myself ?
I make a general pattern feature an in assembly put a screw, but the component array linked to the pattern feature doesn't work.
Attached files.

Thank you...

RE: What's New in NX 8.0.2?

For NX 8.0.2.2, despite what the wording in the 'Release Notes' may imply, 'General' Pattern Features are not currently supported.  Generally speaking, only Linear and Circular Pattern Features are now supported.

However, for the next full version of NX, which will be released this fall, it appears that all of the Pattern Feature types will now be fully supported when creating Component Arrays.

RE: What's New in NX 8.0.2?

John,
I know that the next NX version support general feature pattern, because you have write here in some old topic and because I'm a beta tester.
Anyway, from the first NX 8 beta phase, component array was able to support linear and circular feature pattern, so I don't understand the word 'you can now reference all types of pattern features' in the NX 8.0.2.2 release note.
Or it is an error or I would like to know which feature pattern type are now supported in NX 8.0.2.2.

Thank you...

This is being investigated as I type.  Note however, that this is fully functional in the next full release of NX, which will be available later this fall.

RE: What's New in NX 8.0.2?

The NX 8.0.2.2 'Release Notes' were correct, as far as they went, but they didn't go far enough.  What was missing was the information about the setting of an environment variable needed to activate this enhancement.  It was set-up while while we were testing the changes and instructions as to how to set it was supposed to have been included in the release notes when it was ready to be turned on, but was missed.  This will be fully covered in the next MR.

Anyway, what you need to do is set the following variable:

UGII_COMP_ARRAY_WITH_NEW_FEAT_PATTERN=1

I just tested this using your sample assembly using NX 8.0.2.2 with the variable set and it works fine.

Sorry for the misstep but also thank you.  Until I started to ask around, our people were unaware that we had missed this 'minor detail' since the variable had been set in the test environment which allowed us to overlook the need to caveat it in the 'Release Notes' which, as I said, will be corrected in the next MR.  GTAC has also been informed of this so they will be helping anyone who contacts them about this as well.

Of course, in the next full release of NX this has all have been taken care of in the code itself and no variable will be needed.
