Render Resolution

Render Resolution

I have a client that wants to print a render on an 8' x 12' banner.  I need a reality check before I spend the next three days of computing time making this image.  If I assume that they are going to print the banner at 150 dpi does that mean I need to set my render resolution to 14400 x 21600 in order to avoid graininess when they make an 8x12 banner?

RE: Render Resolution

Dan,

You may have an issue with RAM for an image that size.  How much RAM do you have in your system?  I can render that out on a dual socket 24 thread system with 48 gigs of RAM. Dual Xeon X5690's.  Give me a shout.

150 dpi will likely work fine.  Remember people are not going to be standing right on top of the banner.

Cheers,

Thanks, Anna.  I tried to explain that to the customer to no avail.  I reduced the image size to 10,000 x 6000, and I'm currently giving it a shot.  I'll let you know if i have any issues.  I only have 8 gigs of RAM, by the way.
