Proof Test - Rectangular Plate Cover

Proof Test - Rectangular Plate Cover

Proof Test - Rectangular Plate Cover

(OP)
Dear Engineers,
I'm facing to one issue and I would be really please if someone can help me.

I have designed a pressure vessel. The vessel has a rectangular nozzle/opening reinforced by outer ribs. It was designed with using FEA (Shell model) and EN 13445 Appendix C.

Now I need to design a rectangular cover which will enclose the pressure chamber for proof testing. The cover will be welded all around its perimeter by a fillet weld to the welding flange of the vessel. Could someone help me how to properly design the cover thickness and the fillet weld throat? I would like to use some simple way and not to model the weld-cover-vessel connection area by 3D FE model. Does any DBA exists or any handbook? Do you have any experience with it?

Thank you very much for any help.

RE: Proof Test - Rectangular Plate Cover

Who are you working for, and what does your BOSS want you to use as design criteria, specifications, and practicess to satisfy HIS BOSS ... so your company remains in business designing high-energy pressure vessels?

RE: Proof Test - Rectangular Plate Cover

Not sure what Code you are working to, but you can find equations to calculate thickness in ASME Sec VIII D1 UG34 or Roarks. AWS/ASME has fillet weld sizing.
