Category D in B31.3

Category D in B31.3

Category D in B31.3

(OP)
Hi All,

As I understand in B31.3 "Category D" piping can be applied ONLY when agreed with the Owner or Client otherwise most piping belongs to Normal Fluid.

Much appreciated your response.
Thanks

RE: Category D in B31.3

Pipingtop,
Piping is nominated as Cat D by the design engineers.
Initial Service Leak Test in lieu of hydrotest for Cat D piping is at the owners discretion,
Regards,
Kiwi

RE: Category D in B31.3

Kiwi2671;
per B31.3 300(d)(5) and app M, Cat D is designated by the owner. Does this mean the designer has to inform the owner, or is the owner the only body authorized to designate piping systems as cat D?

PS: is category D as referenced in K302.3.3(c) a category in ASTM E114 or E142 (i.e. has nothing to do with Cat D Fluid Service)? I dont have copies of those ASTM standards..
