transition section failed for external pressure.

transition section failed for external pressure.

transition section failed for external pressure.

(OP)
I keep getting a deficiencies message on the transition saying that "Cone juncture MAEP is less than external design pressure (15 psi).  Anyone have any idea how I can eliminate this deficiency?
    Transition: large end = 132
                small end = 90
                O.A.L     = 42
                Cone thk. = 0.625 (calculated = 0.4932)
Int. D.P = 100 psi @ 500 deg. F
Ext. D.P = 15 psi @ 450 deg. F.

Greatly appreciated!

qvt0306, Code of construction?

RE: transition section failed for external pressure.

Did you try to check with a manual calculation based on Appendix 1-8? Obviously, you have overlooked something, perhaps in geometry, look up also on Fig. UG-28.1.

RE: transition section failed for external pressure.

If the hand-calc's confirm the deficiency, add an 'insulation ring' that provides the necessary stiffness.   It will be pretty small.
