Entry Level Engineering Jobs for ME

Entry Level Engineering Jobs for ME

Entry Level Engineering Jobs for ME

(OP)
I am looking for an entry level engineering jobs (for an ME major) in the exploration industry but I don't know what to search for besides the following jobs.

entry level logging and perf (Halliburton)
entry level mwd (Halliburton)
entry level cementing
entry level frac/acid

I don't have experience in the oil industry besides an 8 month internship at an environmental engineering firm that specialized in spill plans for oil companies.

Are there any other jobs that I could apply for in this industry with my background?

RE: Entry Level Engineering Jobs for ME

All of the majors have some sort of intern program (BP calls theirs the "Challenger Program", others have other cute names).  I've heard that they have finally learned that engineering staff is not a commodity and have multi-year hiring plans that aren't tied to current operations results.  I'll believe that when they've followed their plan for 3 years in a row, but that is what they're saying.  The nearly-majors are also doing more than a bit of new-hires.  Smaller than that and mostly they hire experience.

Do some digging and find the name of the program in various companies and send your CV to the director of that program.  Sometimes that can be an effective way to circumvent HR roadblocks.

Also, every oil-company website I go to has a job-opportunity page.  Look for a job that you are qualified for and fill out the online form (these always go through an HR filter, but if you had decent grades you might pass that).

Apply for graduate schemes with the oil majors, or send in your CV/Resume - almost all large companys will have a job opportunity section/person to contact.  Or you could try agencies that specialise in recruitment in the oil & gas industry. Oilcareers.com might be a useful website to get an idea of who's who.

Thanks for your suggestions.  I've applied for a few jobs but still no interviews.  I have a career fair on June 1 and hopefully I can land a few interviews there.

I've been reading about the HR filters and I have to rework the resume so that it doesn't get tossed out by those filters.

So I landed a job as an MWD in the Permian Basin. I managed to get the job by finding out about the opportunity through a networking contact I made. Thanks for everyone's help and suggestions.
