Hi All,

Can someone please advise what is the acceleration values used when designing steel structures using IBC or ASCE codes?

1. What values are commonly used?
2. What are the maximum/worst case values?

There is no such thing as commonly used values. The values are based on geographic location. Look for the seismic acceleration maps given in IBC / ASCE for your region/location.

Look at the USGS website. They have a downloadable little program that can spit out the Ss and S1 values for locations based on zip or lat/long and what code you are using.

M^2..  I don't think 0 is a real possibility, as there is always some level of seismicity. Also, I've never seen it, but from a purely theoretical standpoint, I don't know why 1 would be an upper limit.

Seriously, It is not a joke !

Get a structural engineer. You cannot do seismic design without any experience AND formation background.
