Cooling Tower Upgrades
Cooling Tower Upgrades
(OP)
I want to rebuild an old Lille-Hoffman cooling tower. The original design was 100-85@78WB The new conditions are 95-85@78WB. I am in the Northeast,USA. Are there contractors in the area that perform these services?
How is the best way to guarantee performance when they are done with the project?

RE: Cooling Tower Upgrades
Your new criteria seem less restricive than the old (95-85@78 versus 100-85@78). Couldn't you use the same setup? Note that (always at the risk of sounding ignorant, not afraid to say it) I'm not sure what these values mean, although I'm pretty sure the 78 is a wet bulb temperature)... CB
RE: Cooling Tower Upgrades
As your outlet temperature got reduced by 5 deg. F and inlet remains same you need not go for a revamp. The approach with your data seems to be 4 deg. C which is a little bit high. What type of a cooling tower it is?
1. FRP or Wooden
2. Honey Comb or Splash bar
3. For what application you are using it? (Range for cooling towers used for Generator radiator cooling is more)
Get the data viz., design approach, gas to liquid ratio and power consumption by fan from the repairer prior to the modification. Then check these parameters.
Generally 3 deg. C approach is good. Gas to liquid ratio is maintained anywhere between 1.5 to 2. (as per range)
Ask multiple values for inlet, outlet and design wetbulb temperatures to check range and approach to match various climate conditions.
