Small items turning invisible when zoomed out.

(OP)
I am having a problem with small items, such as bolts or washers, turning invisible on me when I zoom out to see the entire model.  At first I assumed it was related to the tesselation line settings, but the bolt heads have flat faces.

I can zoom in and regnerate the image and generally the missing bolts reappear. But my concern is, "How much do I need to zoom in for them to show up?? and, "Do all items outside of my view get regenerated at the same level of detail?"

There have been problems with small items like washers getting left behind on on a move.  I imagine this invisibility problem is the main cause.  So, I want to find a way that I can be 100% sure that each item is visible and selectable.

Has anyone else run into this issue?
