What determines the EN material group for ASME A333 Grade 6?

RE: Asme a333 grade 6 en grouping

Please excuse my ignorance, but what do you mean determining the EN material group for ASME SA-333 gr. 6?

RE: Asme a333 grade 6 en grouping

gr2,
Not your ignorance - a good question.
SA-333 Grade 6 can be manufactured in accordance with an ASME specification, it can be manufactured in accordance with an EN specification or it can be dual certified to both.
It will not have an EN material group unless it has been dual certified,

RE: Asme a333 grade 6 en grouping

Thanks, I learn something for the day.
So, the double certification determines the EN material group for ASME SA-333 gr.6?

RE: Asme a333 grade 6 en grouping

gr2,
My apologies - I have given incorrect information.
Material grouping for EN materials is given in CR ISO 15608 and is based on chemical composition and mechanical results.
If you have a piece of pipe manufactured to a European specification it may not be recognised by ASME (no P number allocated) but if it is dual certified EN / SA it is acceptable.
However,as I have just discovered the requirements are not the same when using SA materials for EN qualification.
Regards,
Kiwi
