Onshore Steel Design Codes/Standards

Onshore Steel Design Codes/Standards

Onshore Steel Design Codes/Standards

(OP)
Hi All,

Can someone please advise which is the best code/standards/rules for designing ONSHORE steel structures for the oil and gas industry. Does DNV have any such rules? I am familiar with DNV's rules/guides for OFFSHORE structures, but do not know if there is any with respect to ONSHORE. I have AISC Manual of Steel Contruction 13th Edition with me as well.
Please advise.

Regards,

SubseaOcean

RE: Onshore Steel Design Codes/Standards

Usually the client will specify the design codes to be adopted.  But in my experience the onshore design is typically completed in accordance with the usual codes used in building in that area so could be AISC, BS5950 etc etc, and more specialised codes as needed.

I am unaware of any DNV codes for building design and as DNV are a classification society I would be surprised if there are any.

Check with your client.

RE: Onshore Steel Design Codes/Standards

In the US, the local jurisdiction specifies the building code. In many parts of the US (most?) It's the 2006 or 2009 IBC. The IBC then adopts other codes by reference (e.g, ASCE 7-05, AISC 13th, ACI 318-08, etc.)
